Waiting for transport is a normal part of everyday life. But waiting for long periods along busy roads, under the scorching sun, or torrential rain with no shelter is a situation the people of Kampala, Uganda, know well. In particular, mothers have nowhere to breastfeed from and the elderly and vulnerable have no designated places to sit.

'Shade Stands' at key transit points in Uganda consisting of a purpose build shade, to offer shade and greenery in the dusty streets. The shades provide critically needed venues for public health education to raise awareness of issues such as the benefits of breast feeding in addressing malnutrition and cervical cancer screening for young women, Issues of HIV/AIDS awareness and health promotion generally.

In our new efforts to take shades everywhere, we have now resorted to building shades in areas where they are needed most, and accompanying them with the nature of health problems affecting the people in the area.
We are unlimited when it comes to health education and we build shades depending on the requests from the community.

'Shade Stands' offer vital protection, amenities and educational resources to improve the health and well-being of many commuters, but particularly for the elderly, vulnerable and mothers with babies.
